Target Information
The PDGF-BB protein is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor family, which includes four mitogenic factors for cells of mesenchymal origin characterized by eight cysteine motifs. PDGF-BB can form homodimers or heterodimers (PDGF-AB) connected by disulfide bonds. Mutations in this gene are associated with meningioma. Reciprocal translocations between chromosomes 22 and 7 involving this gene and COL1A1 are linked to dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans due to unregulated growth factor expression. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encode different isoforms.
