Prolactin (PRL)은 젖샘 자극, 염분 및 수분 조절, 성장, 발달, 생식에 관여하는 뇌하수체 호르몬입니다. PRL은 막관통형 PRL 수용체에 결합하여 신호전달 경로를 통해 다양한 세포 유형에 영향을 미칩니다. PRL 수용체(PRLR)는 사이토카인 수용체 계열에 속하며, 조직 및 종에 따라 약 40–100 kDa 크기로 다양합니다. PRLR은 5개의 시스테인을 포함하는 prolactin 결합 부위를 가진 세포외 영역, 단일 막관통 영역, 그리고 세포질 영역으로 구성되어 있으며, 세포질 영역의 길이는 리간드 결합 및 세포 기능 조절에 영향을 미칩니다.
