Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the keratin gene family. Type II cytokeratins are basic or neutral proteins arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains coexpressed during differentiation of epithelial tissues. This cytokeratin is expressed in the basal layer of the epidermis with KRT14. Mutations in these genes are associated with epidermolysis bullosa simplex. Type II cytokeratins are clustered on chromosome 12q12–q13.
