Target Information
Alpha Tubulin is part of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits, each approximately 55 kDa. These subunits form microtubules—cylindrical filamentous structures found in nearly all eukaryotic cells. Microtubules provide structural support, enable intracellular transport, and play a vital role during mitosis.
Eukaryotic microtubules are composed of alpha and beta tubulins, with gamma tubulin facilitating microtubule nucleation. Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved among species. The alpha tubulin gene shows strong similarity to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene. Northern blot analyses indicate predominant expression in morphologically differentiated neurologic cells.
