Complement component 4 binding protein (C4bp)는 알파 및 베타 사슬로 구성된 3가지 변형체를 가집니다. 주요 형태는 7개의 알파 사슬과 1개의 베타 사슬로 이루어진 570 kDa 복합체입니다.
기타 형태로는 530 kDa 알파 사슬 호모헵타머 및 500 kDa (6 알파 + 1 베타) 복합체가 존재합니다.
C4bp는 classical complement pathway의 활성화를 조절하며, C3b/C4b inactivator의 보조 인자로 작용하여 C4b 및 C3b의 단백질 분해에 중요합니다.
또한 C4bC2a 복합체(C3 convertase)의 분해를 촉진하여 C2a의 해리를 유도합니다.
C4bp의 알파 및 베타 사슬은 항응고 단백질 S와 상호작용하며, 알파 사슬은 protein S에 결합합니다.
C4bp는 혈청에서 발현됩니다.
