OTX2는 homeodomain을 포함하는 전사 인자 계열 중 bicoid 서브패밀리에 속하는 289개의 아미노산으로 구성된 단백질입니다. 두 가지 알려진 대체 스플라이스 변형을 가지며, 다른 isoform의 존재 가능성도 있습니다. OTX2는 배아줄기세포의 내배엽 분화 초기 마커로 알려져 있으며, 뇌 및 감각 기관의 발달에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한 BCD 타깃 서열(BTS) 5'-TCTAATCCC-3'에 결합할 수 있습니다. OTX2 결함은 microphthalmia syndromic type 5 (MCOPS5)의 원인이 됩니다.
