Target Information
Cardiac Troponin I (TNNI3) is a cardiac-specific inhibitory protein that functions as part of the troponin complex with troponin C (TnC) and troponin T (TnT). It binds to actin in thin filaments of muscle tissue, regulating muscle contraction through calcium-dependent structural changes. Measurement of TnI and TnT levels in blood is a key diagnostic indicator of cardiac muscle damage and aids in differentiating angina from myocardial infarction. Cardiac Troponin I also inhibits angiogenesis in vivo and in vitro. Mutations in the TNNI3 gene are associated with familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy type 7 (CMH7) and familial restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM).
