Target Information
Annexins are a family of calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding proteins. Members of this family contain four internal repeat domains, each with a type II calcium-binding site. These sites are essential for annexins to aggregate and bind anionic phospholipids and extracellular matrix proteins.
Annexin A9 is a divergent member of this family, with amino acid substitutions in all four type II calcium-binding sites that abolish their function. Despite this, structural analysis indicates that the conserved ion channel formed by the tetrad core remains intact.
