Target Information
Desmosomes are cell-cell junctions found in epithelial, myocardial, and certain other cell types. Three desmoglein subfamily members are known, all belonging to the cadherin cell adhesion molecule superfamily. These genes are clustered on chromosome 18. Desmoglein 2 has been identified as the autoantigen in the autoimmune skin blistering disease pemphigus vulgaris.
