Target Information
The PHOX2B gene encodes a DNA-associated protein belonging to the paired family of homeobox proteins localized in the nucleus. It functions as a transcription factor involved in the development of major noradrenergic neuron populations and determination of neurotransmitter phenotype. The gene product enhances second messenger-mediated activation of dopamine beta-hydroxylase and c-fos promoters, as well as several enhancers including cyclic AMP-response and serum-response elements.
