Target Information
MettL7A belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily and is a probable methyltransferase. Methyltransferases transfer methyl groups from donors to acceptors, commonly on nucleic bases in DNA or amino acids in proteins. DNA methylation regulates gene expression without altering the DNA sequence and is essential for normal mammalian embryonic development. Disruption of methyltransferase genes can cause lethal phenotypes in mice. Aberrant methylation of tumor suppressor genes is associated with tumorigenesis and metastasis.
