TMEM184A는 UPF0206 패밀리에 속하는 다중 통과형 막단백질로, 정확한 기능은 명확히 알려지지 않았으나 발생 중인 고환에서 높은 수준으로 발현됩니다. Sertoli 세포의 분화 과정에서 성 특이적 신호 전달에 관여할 가능성이 있으며, Sertoli 세포에서의 제한적 발현은 이 단백질이 해당 세포의 발달 및 기능 유지에 중요한 역할을 할 수 있음을 시사합니다.
TMEM184A를 여성 생식 능선에서 이소 발현시키면 생식세포가 감수분열에 진입하지 못하는 현상이 관찰되었습니다.
