Target Information

CD146 (MCAM) is an integral membrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed at cell-cell junctions in endothelial cells and various normal and malignant cell types.
CD146 functions as:

• A calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule
• A signal transduction molecule recruiting Fyn kinase and inducing tyrosine phosphorylation of proteins involved in actin cytoskeleton assembly

CD146 plays roles in:

• Endothelial cell adhesion and cohesion
• Melanoma cell interaction with vascular components, promoting tumor spread
• Neural crest cell adhesion during embryonic development
• Surface receptor activity triggering phosphorylation of FYN and PTK2 and transient intracellular calcium increase
