Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product remains stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-goat serum, purified and partially purified Pepsin (Porcine stomach). Cross-reactivity against Pepsin from other tissues and species may occur but has not been specifically determined.

PGA5 (Pepsinogen 5, group I / Pepsinogen A):
Pepsinogens are inactive precursors of pepsin, the major acid protease found in the stomach. Pepsin is a single polypeptide chain enzyme derived from pepsinogen by removal of a 41 amino acid segment from the N-terminus. Synthesized in the stomach lining, pepsin requires hydrochloric acid for activation and optimal function (pH 1–3). It effectively cleaves peptide bonds involving aromatic amino acids and exhibits broad substrate specificity. PGA5 belongs to the A1 subfamily of the pepsin family and is the predominant endopeptidase in vertebrate gastric juice. It is inhibited by ovUS-1, a uterine serpin.
