Background
Tight junctions are specialized structures that facilitate cell-to-cell adhesion in epithelial or endothelial sheets, forming continuous seals around cells to regulate paracellular permeability. Claudin-3 is an integral membrane protein and a key component of tight junction strands. It also functions as a low-affinity receptor for Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin and shares sequence similarity with a putative apoptosis-related protein found in rat.
