Background
Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily D member 2 (OR2D2) is a human olfactory receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses responsible for smell perception. These receptors belong to the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure shared with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. They play a key role in odorant recognition and G protein-mediated signal transduction. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and its nomenclature is organism-specific.
