Background
This gene encodes a transmembrane receptor with two fibronectin type-III domains, two Ig-like C2-type domains, and one tyrosine kinase domain. Mutations in MerTK/Tyro3 are associated with disruption of retinal pigment epithelium phagocytosis and autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
