Background
This gene belongs to the cadherin superfamily, which encodes calcium-dependent, membrane-associated glycoproteins. The encoded protein is cadherin-like, consisting of an extracellular region with seven cadherin domains and a transmembrane region but lacking the conserved cytoplasmic domain. It functions as an intestinal proton-dependent peptide transporter, contributing to oral absorption of peptide-based drugs and may be involved in the morphological organization of liver and intestine.
