Background
This gene encodes poly(ADP-ribosyl)transferase-like 2 protein, which contains a catalytic domain and catalyzes poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation. It shares homology with poly(ADP-ribosyl) transferase but lacks the N-terminal DNA-binding domain. Basic residues in the N-terminal region may contribute to DNA-binding and nuclear/nucleolar localization. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
