Background
CCR2 (C-C Motif Chemokine Receptor 2) is a protein-coding gene associated with idiopathic anterior uveitis and CD3ζ deficiency. It functions as a receptor for CCL2, CCL7, and CCL13 chemokines, transducing signals via intracellular calcium increase. CCR2 also acts as an alternative coreceptor with CD4 for HIV-1 infection. Chemokine CC receptors (CCRs) recognize CC chemokines characterized by four conserved cysteines, with the first two adjacent. There are 10 known CC chemokine receptors.
