Background
The protein encoded by this gene is a receptor for interleukin 10. It is structurally related to interferon receptors and mediates the immunosuppressive signal of IL-10, inhibiting proinflammatory cytokine synthesis. This receptor promotes survival of progenitor myeloid cells through the insulin receptor substrate-2/PI3K/AKT pathway and activates JAK1 and TYK2 kinases via tyrosine phosphorylation. Two transcript variants, one protein-coding and one non-coding, have been identified for this gene. (RefSeq, Jan 2009)
