Background
This gene is a member of the leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor (LIR) family, located in the 19q13.4 chromosomal region. The encoded protein belongs to the subfamily B class of LIR receptors, containing two or four extracellular immunoglobulin domains, a transmembrane domain, and cytoplasmic immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). It is expressed on immune cells, binds to MHC class I molecules, and transduces inhibitory signals that regulate immune responses, inflammation, and cytotoxicity. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
