Target Information
PDGFRA is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The specific growth factor bound determines whether the receptor forms a homodimer or heterodimer (alpha and beta polypeptides). Knockout mouse studies indicate PDGFRA plays a crucial role in kidney development, as heterozygous mice exhibit defective kidney phenotypes.
