Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the dual specificity protein phosphatase (DUSP) subfamily. These phosphatases inactivate their target kinases by dephosphorylating both phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine residues. They negatively regulate members of the MAP kinase superfamily, which are associated with cellular proliferation and differentiation.
Different members of this subfamily exhibit distinct substrate specificities, tissue distribution, subcellular localization, and expression inducibility. DUSP5 specifically inactivates ERK1, is expressed in multiple tissues (highest in pancreas and brain), and is localized in the nucleus.
