Target Information
Glutathione peroxidases (Gpxs) are ubiquitously expressed proteins that catalyze the reduction of hydrogen peroxides and organic hydroperoxides by glutathione. There are several isoforms differing in primary structure and localization.
The classical cytosolic/mitochondrial GPx1 (cGPx) is a selenium-dependent enzyme and the first discovered member of the GPx family.
GPx2 (GI-GPx) is expressed in the gastrointestinal epithelium.
Extracellular plasma GPx (GPx3) is mainly expressed by the kidney and released into the bloodstream.
Phospholipid hydroperoxide GPx4 (PH-GPx) is widely expressed and can reduce many hydroperoxides, including those in membranes and lipoproteins.
Most mammalian GPx family members, except for certain Cys-containing isoforms such as GPx3 and GPx5, possess selenocysteine at the active site.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
