Target Information

This gene encodes the fifth enzyme of the heme biosynthetic pathway. The enzyme catalyzes the conversion of uroporphyrinogen to coproporphyrinogen by removing four carboxymethyl side chains.
Mutations or deficiencies in this enzyme are associated with familial porphyria cutanea tarda and hepatoerythropoetic porphyria.
