Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and is closely related to mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAP kinases). MAP kinases, also known as extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs), are activated through phosphorylation cascades and serve as integration points for multiple biochemical signals. This kinase localizes in the nucleus and is activated in fibroblasts upon serum or phorbol ester treatment. Expression is highest in skeletal muscle, followed by the brain, and is also found in heart, placenta, lung, liver, pancreas, kidney, and skin fibroblasts.
