L1CAM/CD171은 면역글로불린 초유전자군에 속하는 축삭 당단백질로, 여러 면역글로불린 유사 도메인과 type III fibronectin 유사 반복으로 구성된 세포외 도메인이 단일 막관통 서열을 통해 세포질 도메인에 연결되어 있습니다. 이 세포 부착 분자는 신경계 발달 과정에서 신경세포 이동 및 분화에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
유전자 변이는 CRASH 증후군(뇌량 저형성, 지적 장애, 실어증, 경직성 하반신 마비, 수두증)을 유발하며, 신경 특이적 엑손의 대체 스플라이싱은 기능적으로 중요한 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
