Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
SOAT1 (sterol O-acyltransferase-1), also known as ACAT1, is a homotetrameric enzyme that catalyzes the formation of cholesterol esters from cholesterol and long-chain fatty acyl-CoA.
The human SOAT1 gene maps to chromosome 1 and encodes a protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of tissues such as liver, kidney, adrenal glands, and macrophages.
SOAT1 plays a key role in cholesterol homeostasis, foam cell formation, and atherosclerosis progression.
SOAT2 (ACAT2) performs similar functions in lipoprotein assembly and cholesterol esterification in intestinal cells. SOAT2 deficiency is associated with severe mental retardation and hypotonia.
