Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein that constitutes about half of the blood serum protein. It functions as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume.
Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein (molecular weight ~65,000) synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin. The N-terminal peptide is removed before the nascent protein is released from the rough endoplasmic reticulum, forming proalbumin, which is then cleaved in the Golgi vesicles to produce secreted albumin.
