Target Information
This gene encodes a selenoprotein containing a selenocysteine (Sec) residue at its active site. The selenocysteine is encoded by the UGA codon, which normally signals translation termination. The 3′ UTR of selenoprotein genes includes a stem-loop structure known as the SECIS element, enabling recognition of UGA as a Sec codon. This protein belongs to the methionine sulfoxide reductase B (MsrB) family and is expressed in various adult and fetal tissues.
