Target Information
The anaphase-promoting complex (APC), also known as the cyclosome, is a large protein complex that promotes metaphase–anaphase transition by ubiquitinating specific substrates such as mitotic cyclins and anaphase inhibitors, which are subsequently degraded by the 26S proteasome. Vertebrate APC contains eight subunits and is highly conserved across species from yeast to humans. The exact function of this gene product remains unclear. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
