Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper (bHLHZ) family of transcription factors. It forms homodimers and heterodimers with other members such as Mad, Mxi1, and Myc. Myc functions as an oncoprotein involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. These dimers compete for a common DNA target site (the E box), providing a complex regulatory network for transcription. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been reported, although the full-length nature of some remains unclear.
