Target Information
Forkhead-box J1 (FOXJ1) is a 421-amino acid transcription factor that suppresses T cell activity and spontaneous autoimmunity through repression of NF-κB activity. It also inhibits the humoral immune response in B cells. FOXJ1 deficiency in B cells results in spontaneous and accentuated germinal center formation, contributing to the development of pathogenic autoantibodies and enhanced responses to immunizations. Abnormal FOXJ1 expression may be associated with autoimmune or inflammatory diseases. Additionally, FOXJ1 is required for cilia formation and left-right axis determination by increasing calpastatin expression, which supports basal body anchoring to the apical cytoskeleton. FOXJ1 expression may serve as an early marker of epithelial cell differentiation, recovery, and function.
