Target Information
The inhibin beta B subunit joins the alpha subunit to form a pituitary FSH secretion inhibitor. Inhibin regulates gonadal stromal cell proliferation negatively and has tumor-suppressor activity. Serum inhibin levels reflect granulosa-cell tumor size and can serve as a marker for primary and recurrent disease. Expression varies by tissue, suggesting inhibin functions as both a growth/differentiation factor and a hormone. The beta B subunit also forms activin B homodimers and activin AB heterodimers, both stimulating FSH secretion.
