Target Information
DCAMKL2 is a serine/threonine kinase involved in signal transduction and cellular communication. It is the human homolog of a rat protein kinase expressed in cerebrocortical lamination that binds microtubules. The microtubule-polymerizing activity of the encoded protein is independent of its kinase activity. Mouse studies show that DCX and DCAMKL2 share functions in hippocampal organization, and their absence results in severe epileptic phenotypes and lethality, similar to human lissencephaly. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
