Target Information
CD73 (Ecto-5'-nucleotidase, 5'-ribonucleotide phosphohydrolase) catalyzes the conversion of purine 5'-mononucleotides to nucleosides at neutral pH, with AMP as the preferred substrate.
It forms a dimer of two identical 70 kDa subunits anchored to the plasma membrane via a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol linkage.
CD73 serves as a marker for lymphocyte differentiation, and deficiencies are associated with various immunodeficiency diseases.
Other 5'-nucleotidases differ by substrate affinity, magnesium ion requirement, ATP activation, and phosphate inhibition.
The CD73 gene is localized to chromosome 6q14–q21. Mutations can cause joint and arterial calcification and intestinal tuberculosis.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD73 have been identified.
