Target Information
HCN1 (Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channel 1) belongs to the HCN gene family, which contributes to spontaneous rhythmic activity in both heart and brain. HCN1 channels are activated by hyperpolarization and regulated by cyclic nucleotides. HCN1 and HCN2 play key roles in motor learning and neuronal integration by cerebellar Purkinje cells, influencing the autonomous activity of single neurons and the rhythmicity of network oscillations.
HCN1 expression is enriched in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, cerebellum, and facial motor nucleus. HCN2 is abundant in mammillary bodies, pontine nucleus, ventral cochlear nucleus, and nucleus of the trapezoid body. Variations in regional HCN channel expression contribute to differences in neuronal pacemaker activity across brain systems.
