Target Information
MYLK (MLCK) is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates myosin regulatory light chains to enable contractile activity through myosin-actin interaction.
It plays a key role in smooth muscle contraction, vascular permeability, tissue edema formation, and signaling pathways leading to fibroblast apoptosis.
MLCK is expressed in various adult and fetal tissues, including smooth muscle and non-muscle cells.
Non-muscle isoform 2 is the dominant splice variant, while the Telokin isoform binds calmodulin.
The protein includes one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains.
MLCK is likely down-regulated by phosphorylation.
