HLA-DRB4는 HLA class II beta chain 패럴로그 중 하나로, 알파(DRA) 및 베타(DRB) 사슬로 구성된 이형이량체입니다. 이 분자는 세포 외 단백질에서 유래한 펩타이드를 제시하여 면역계에서 중심적인 역할을 합니다. Class II 분자는 항원제시세포(APC: B 세포, 수지상세포, 대식세포)에 발현됩니다.
베타 사슬은 약 26–28 kDa이며 6개의 엑손을 포함합니다. 엑손 1은 리더 펩타이드를, 엑손 2와 3은 두 개의 세포외 도메인을, 엑손 4는 막 통과 도메인을, 엑손 5는 세포질 꼬리를 암호화합니다. DR 분자 내에서 베타 사슬은 펩타이드 결합 특이성을 지정하는 모든 다형성을 포함하고 있습니다. 이러한 다형성에 대한 타이핑은 골수 및 신장이식에서 일반적으로 수행됩니다.
DRB1은 DRB3, DRB4, DRB5보다 약 5배 높은 수준으로 발현되며, DRB4의 존재는 DRB1의 대립유전자 변이와 연관되어 있습니다. 관련된 유사유전자는 DRB2, DRB6, DRB7, DRB8, DRB9입니다.
