Target Information
PINK1 (PTEN-induced putative kinase 1) protects cells from mitochondrial dysfunction by modulating autophosphorylation of mitochondrial genes. The kinase domain of PINK1 is essential for its protective effects. Mitochondrial proteins play a key role in cellular energy regulation and stress adaptation, especially in brain cells where energy demand is high. Disruption of mitochondrial function in the brain can lead to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
