Target Information
TAF12 is involved in the control of transcription by RNA polymerase II. It participates in the basal transcription machinery, a collection of proteins that assemble with RNA polymerase II into complexes modulated by transactivator proteins binding to cis-regulatory elements near the transcription start site. Some modulators interact directly with the basal complex, while others act as bridging proteins linking transactivators to basal transcription factors. Among these are the TAF proteins, which are tightly associated with TBP in the TFIID complex. Different TAFs mediate the function of distinct transcriptional activators for various gene promoters and RNA polymerases. TAF12 interacts directly with TBP and TAF2I.
