Target Information
INK4a locus on chromosome 9p21 encodes two tumor suppressor proteins: p16INK4a and ARF (p14ARF in human, P19ARF in mouse).
These proteins interact with retinoblastoma and p53 tumor suppressors, playing key roles in cell senescence, cell cycle control, and tumor suppression.
p14ARF (or P19ARF in mouse) can induce G1 and G2 phase arrest dependent on functional p53.
Differences in ARF function between species may influence tumor susceptibility.
