Target Information

Immunoglobulin classes share the same basic four polypeptide chain structure consisting of two heavy chains (five types) and two light chains (kappa and lambda, both with a molecular weight of 22.5 kDa).
Kappa and lambda chains each have a variable and a constant region, which can be differentiated by antigenic properties of the constant region. The typical ratio of kappa to lambda is approximately 70:30.
Antibodies to the kappa light chain are useful in identifying leukemias, plasmacytomas, and certain non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas. Demonstration of clonality in lymphoid infiltrates indicates malignancy.
