Target Information
The CEP170 gene encodes a centrosomal protein that functions as part of the microtubule-organizing center in animal cells. During interphase, it localizes to the sub-distal appendages of mature centrioles, aiding in centrosome organization. During mitosis, it associates with spindle microtubules near centrosomes. The protein interacts with and is phosphorylated by polo-like kinase 1, contributing to microtubule organization and cell morphology. The human genome includes a putative pseudogene, and several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
