Target Information
Interleukin 12A (IL-12A) is a signaling cytokine of the Interleukin-6 protein superfamily. It encodes the 35-kD alpha subunit of the heterodimeric cytokine IL-12, which influences a wide range of immune responses. IL-12A acts as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, enhances NK/lymphokine-activated killer cell activity, and stimulates IFN-gamma production. It contributes to Th1 and Th2 differentiation and positive regulation of Stat4 phosphorylation. IL-12A signaling in innate immunity requires nitric oxide synthase 2A and, together with EBI3, forms the heterodimeric cytokine IL-35, associated with Treg-mediated immunosuppression.
