Target Information
Cannabinoids exert their physiological effects through two G protein–coupled receptors, cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) and CB2. Both receptors inhibit adenylyl cyclase and stimulate MAPK signaling.
CB1 receptors also modulate ion channels via G-protein interactions, contributing to psychoactive effects through inhibition of presynaptic calcium channels.
CB2 is primarily associated with immune system function but may also be present in the central nervous system, including the retina.
