Target Information
The EGR2 gene encodes the early growth response 2 protein, a transcription factor that binds specific DNA regions to regulate gene expression. It plays a critical role in myelin formation and maintenance, essential for proper nerve impulse transmission.
Mutations in EGR2 are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1D, type 4E (congenital hypomyelinating neuropathy), and Dejerine-Sottas syndrome.
