Target Information
ITGB1 (Integrin Subunit Beta 1, beta1 integrin subunit, GPIIa, CD29) is a 110 kDa cell surface glycoprotein widely expressed by various cell types, including all leukocytes. It forms non-covalently linked heterodimers with multiple alpha chains (α1–α6), determining the binding properties of beta1 (VLA) integrins. ITGB1 functions as a cell adhesion molecule on platelets and mediates interactions with extracellular matrix proteins.
Decreased ITGB1 expression is associated with multidrug resistance in tumor cells. It is up-regulated during leukocyte migration and plays a critical role in immune cell trafficking and inflammation processes such as inflammatory bowel disease. ITGB1 also mediates fibronectin and collagen-induced cytokine secretion in airway smooth muscle cells. Two major isoforms, beta1A and beta1D, differ by 13 amino acids and exhibit tissue-specific expression patterns—beta1A in most tissues and beta1D in cardiac and skeletal muscle.
