Zinc finger protein SNAI1 (SNAIL)은 아연 손가락 전사 억제인자로, 중배엽 및 신경능 형성 과정에서 외배엽 유전자 발현을 하향 조절합니다. SNAI1은 E-cadherin 발현 억제와 상피-중간엽 전이(EMT) 유도에 관여하여 종양 침습에 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 보고되었습니다. 인간 유방암에서 SNAI1 및 유사 단백질 SNAI2(Slug)의 발현은 E-cadherin 억제, 국소 또는 원격 전이, 종양 재발, 불량한 예후 등과 관련이 있습니다. 또한 SNAI1 단백질은 결장암의 새로운 예후 표지자로 제안된 바 있습니다.
